Premier: ‘I will build on predecessor’s work’

CANDLEWOOD — Newly appointed premier, Stephen Cameron, has said his party will ‘build on his predecessor’s work’.

In a press release issued this morning, Premier Cameron referenced the changeover in power yesterday saying, ‘This isn’t the way I would’ve preferred our nation’s top job but we work with the hand we are dealt.’

He praised his predecessor, Ethan McAllister, for his ‘tenacity and dedication’ to New Ulster and promised not to undo any of the former premier’s work.

‘New Ulster is just getting started,’ Cameron said, ‘While the previous Cabinet worked hard — and we recognize that — the minority status impacted what could be done. The Democratic Party has a majority and the reality is that this allows us to achieve much more.’

Premier Cameron is expected to name his Cabinet today. His press release gave no hint as to who will hold which job but it’s rumoured Speaker of the House of Assembly, Autumn Hunter, may stand down from that role in exchange for a ministerial portfolio.
