Marsden Sworn In As Governor

newulster

ROTHESAY — Sir Geoffrey Marsden has formally taken office as 1st Governor of New Ulster.

Governor Marsden — who becomes Sir Geoffrey owing to his becoming head of the Order of Merit — , assumes office after the government invoked the ‘no contest’ clause of the Constitution Act.

Under this clause, any office holder requiring the Queen’s approval is automatically appointed if ‘no objection or alternative proposal’ is made by Her Majesty within 10 working days.

Sir Geoffrey was nominated by Premier Ethan McAllister on August 2. Therefore, as no objection or alternative proposal was made by August 16, he was duly appointed. He took the Oath of Allegiance before the House of Assembly at midday local time (ADT; GMT–3).
