Highest award for nation’s co-founders in New Year Honours list

newulster

QUISPAMSIS — New Ulster co-founders Ethan McAllister and Stephen Cameron are to be inducted into the Order of New Ulster—the country’s highest award—as well as knighted for ‘services to the nation’ as the New Year Honours list is announced.

Their awards cite their ‘dedication and drive’ as well as their ‘exemplary conduct’. McAllister, a former premier, and Cameron, the current premier, first discussed founding a nation on Canada Day, July 1, 2021. Within a month, McAllister had drafted the Constitution Act while Cameron had recruited friends, family, and coworkers.

Other recipients of awards are former foreign minister Joshua De Koning who is made Commander of the Order of Merit and his successor Clara Hennigan who is made Officer of the Order of Merit. Speaker of the House Autumn Hunter is made Member of the Order of Merit.

It is expected that—COVID allowing—the Governor will host an investiture ceremony some time in the new year.
